-Austria's POV-

    It didn't take very long to reach a clearing placed in the direct center of the forest that we had been wondering in for days on end. When the whole clearing came into view, we were shocked to find a giant grandfather clock in the middle of the large flower field. The ominous feeling dissolved quickly, the moment we saw the clock, that horrid feeling was quickly replaced with relief and pure joy. It was almost too good to be true, but this was what the others had been searching for, the thing Italy had used to turn back time....! With this we're extremely close to finally freeing the others and getting out of here for once and for all!

    "Y-you were right!" Hungary rushed towards me, a gigantic smile on her face, embracing me.

    "I usually am, aren't I?" I asked, blinking in shock from the sudden hug.

    "Not usually... But you were right this time, which is what matters in the end." She laughed, I scowled a bit, but I couldn't stay angry for long. I held Hungary close to me, she stiffened, but it didn't take her long to warm up to the sudden act of affection. She laid her head against my chest, still smiling, her eyes closed. It had been so long since we've actually been this close to each other, But it was so nice to be with her like this. I never thought I would get to hold her like this, ever again.

    Suddenly the aura around the clearing grew extremely dark, so dark even the sunlight turned to moonlight. The wind grew strong, almost knocking us over.

    "Wha... go... On?!" Hungary's voice was carried away with the wind, making it difficult to understand her even though she was only inches away from my face. I held her tighter, thinking if I let her go she'd fly away. After the wind died down, we stood there in horror as we saw something we hadn't expected.

    Even in the dark, their features were completely clear. Those large eyes, their grey-toned skin, their large height... Hundreds upon hundreds of those monsters were filing into the clearing.

    "H-Hungary, prepare yourself!" I said, letting her go and pulling out a small gun from my jacket pocket.

    Unfortunately for me, I was running low on ammunition. Despite the fact of us keeping stock and carefully rationing the supplies we had brought with us, it's only natural we would run out at some point. There's no way to go out and collect any other sort of supplies either.

    Hungary unsheathed her favorite weapon of choice- a sword. She had used that a lot in the past, and example of that being when she fought against Prussia, Spain, and France's entire army under the request of one of my past rulers. I may not be much of a fighter, but I can hold my own when the time really counts. I can't just let a girl fight all my battles, after all.

    A demented laughter escaped one of the vile beasts. My eyes widened, as I realized what we had just walked into. This was trap, their plan from the very beginning... They had lured us here so they could trap us and slaughter us both. I should have realized it sooner... Hungary had tried to warn me, too. I clenched my teeth, how could I be such a fool?!

    "....Austria.... I'm scared..." Hungary whispered quietly, I stared at her. Her usually steady hands, were trembling as she held up the sword. I could make out the tears swelling up in her eyes. My heart ached, Hungary was always the strong one... She never let her fear get the best of her. Despite the countless battles and wars we had fought... We always made it out fine, but this time there was no way we were going to make it out alive.

    I took a deep breath, the creatures were drawing in closer as time ticked by, but there was still an empty path behind us. I have to act quickly before they start closing in completely. I grabbed Hungary roughly by the shoulders, hoping It would snap her out of her trance. "Hungary, listen to me! I want you to run, as far as you can from this place, I need you to warn the others. This is a job only you can do. I will hold them off for as long as you can, Just run and don't look back! Do you understand?"

    "W....What are you saying?! You want me to leave without you!?" Hungary shouted.

    "Don't fight me on this, please. You've always protected me... I want to protect you this time. Please... Just go." I pleaded. Tears spilled down her cheeks, I pulled her close, placing a kiss on her lips. She stiffened, her eyes wide. Once I pulled away, I said those three words I haven't told her in so long,"I love you." I turned her around and gave her a push,"Now, start running! I'll be fine, I promise!"

    Hungary turned back, she stood there for a short moment before turning back around tears streaming down her face as she began running. "Austria, you better come back to me or else I'm going to kill you!" As soon as she was out of sight, the gap she had used for an escape was closed, leaving me completely surrounded.

    "... At least she's safe..." I sighed, turning to face the leader of the crowd of beasts. I adjusted my glasses, pushing them closer to my face,"Well? Who's first?"

    "....yOu ArE." At that moment, the first row of beasts sprang at me, I tried dodging, but my attempts were too petty. One of the beats managed to sink it's claw like nails right into my shoulder, dragging it down until it exited at my waist, my eyes grew wide as I screamed out in pain. I could feel the blood that was quickly soaking straight into my shirt, and dropped down the ground in pure agony. The beats were in a completely circle around me, staring down as more and more deep gashes made their way into my pale skin. So this is how it ends? I thought weakly, I'm just going to die here.... But at least... I finally got to tell her those three words.... again.....

-Hungary's POV-

    The moment I could hear Austria screaming in pure agony, I could no longer move. My heart was pounding so hard I could hear it, my legs were barely able to keep me standing. He told me not to look back, but I can't just let him die! I love him so much, I don't want to lose him. I took in a shaky breath, turned around, and ran back. I wasn't sure how well I'd be able to fight them off, but I had to try. I tried to move, but my legs were frozen in place.

    "Get it together, you idiot! He's dying! Are you just going to let him die?!" As I said that my legs began to give out on me, but instead of letting myself fall, I raced forward, turning around, and ran back to the one who I had left.

-Time skip-

    I desperately fought every single creature in my path until all of the ones in front of me were dead. But as I got closer to the center, Austria's screams had all but disappeared. The only sound audible now was the crunching of teeth, and the whimpers of a stranger. The large circle of beasts were surrounding something, I could see a bright red liquid covering the green grass underneath them. My heart was pounding, with each step the crunching grew louder.

    "....stop...." I stared at the grey mass, they were moving in sync with one another, and the chewing and crunching continued. My body was shaking uncontrollably, I didn't want to see what they had done to him, but the small pinch curiosity inside me wanted to see past the mass of monsters. I clenched my teeth, "I SAID STOP!!"

    The sudden shout was enough to draw their attention away from their meal. Blood dripped from their chins as they stared at me with their dark eyes. I tripped my sword, took in a deep breath, and then slaughtered each and every single one. I took out all my frustration, all of my anger, my sadness... Until it was completely drained out of me. I sat there on the ground, looking at my blood stained clothes.

    'Look at him... You know you want to....' A voice said to me.

    "I can't!" I sobbed.

    "Hun.....gary....." Austria's voice choked out, my eyes snapped instantly to him, but I wish they hadn't. His legs were bent in extremely painful angles, blood gushing out of multiple large chunks that had been bitten out of his leg. One of his arms was completely eaten off, only leaving the shoulder on that one side, his other arm was painfully broken in multiple places, the bone could clearly be seen sticking out from underneath his skin. I stared with wide eyes, even more tears spilling down than before.

    "Why.....?" I asked quietly, "Why did you tell me to leave?! If I would have stayed you wouldn't be-"

    "D... Don't blame yourself...." He hacked, the more he talked the more blood he spewed out.

    "D-don't talk, please!" I pleaded, I ripped the end of my dress, thinking I could make bandages to stop some of the bleeding so I could get him back to the others, but, in reality, there was no way I could. His wounds were far too server, he has to be just inches from death- No! I won't let him, not Austria, I thought. I quickly wrapped up what I could of his wounds, but even that didn't help, his blood easily soaked through.

    "Elizabeta.. Stop..." I froze, the last time he called me that was back when we were still together a long time ago. We had both decided that we shouldn't call each other by our country names since we were married, so we ended up giving each other names. He gave me the name Elizabeta, and I called him Roderich. The moment we were divorced, we went back to calling each other by our country names. It's been so long since I heard that name...

    "..." I wanted to say something, but nothing would come out. He stared at me with sad eyes, it was clear he wasn't going to last much longer in his condition, he was just barely hanging on as it was. The thought made me flinch, my head dropped as tears rolled down my face.

    "Don't cry... It really doesn't suit you..." He said quietly,"Smile... Like you always do.."

    "How am I supposed to smile? You're-" I couldn't finish my sentence.

    "Please, smile for me..." He pleaded. I took in a deep breath, and tried to smile, but I only ended up breaking down more, tears spilling down my face. I kept holding my smile for him, and He smiled back, then he was gone.

    I dropped down to his broken body, holding him close as I cried, I let all my anger and frustration melt out of me along with my sadness. Why did he tell me to leave? Why did I agree to it?! I should have stayed! I'm such an idiot... I should have been here with him until the end like I had promised...

    I cried for what seemed like hours, until the point I was too exhausted to cry anymore. My body felt sore, and I could move an inch, I just laid there, my body draped over Roderich's like a blanket. My vision began to blur, and that's when I could see them, slowly creeping towards me. I was too tired to fight back... So very tired...
